Teaching Philosophy

My journey toward becoming a teacher has been rooted in a desire to provide the kind of educational experience I found lacking in my own schooling. My ultimate objective is to show students that they are capable, even when they doubt themselves. I want to foster a classroom where knowledge is not simply delivered as a transactional process but co-constructed with students as active participants. I believe students learn best when they are intellectually engaged and empowered as thinkers. Through mathematical discourse and collaborative problem-solving, students can refine their thinking to view mistakes as opportunities for growth rather than evidence of deficiency.

Classrooms are inherently diverse, not only culturally but also in students’ mathematical histories, identities, needs, and abilities. Effective teaching requires intentional strategies, multiple entry points, varied representations, and flexible opportunities for students to demonstrate understanding. Assessment should extend beyond memorization to show how students reason and apply their knowledge while communicating that learning is growth-oriented. Ultimately, I want students to leave my classroom believing they are capable mathematical thinkers. My goal is to foster an equitable environment that is rigorous yet supportive.
